How do you use the Roe Deer Call Made of Precious Wood?
To allure the roebuck you can use the call from 1st May to the beginning of September by producing a vibrating distress call (envy call). This should provoke the territorial instincts of the dominant buck in an area. The dominant roebuck won’t tolerate a foreign buck in his territory and the distress call (envy call) imitates a doe pressed by a foreign buck.
During the mating season, you should use the yearling doe call, pressed doe call, distress call and fawn distress call. By using the fawn distress call in autumn you can allure the dominant doe and she will bring her “family” along. In Africa the fawn distress call draws in all small to medium sized antelopes, all species of cat, coyotes and jackals. Wild boars react to the call as well.
The long shank of this instrument can be used to produce all the sounds of female deer in the rutting season. The decisive factor is always the lip pressure.
First place your index finger and thumb between the two silicone rings of the long shank and then move your lips up to your fingers. Blow into it briefly and now the deepest sound the device produces comes out. Now, while you are blowing in , you pull the larynx out of your mouth with slightly pressed lips and the pitch changes. You then do the same thing in reverse, starting at the beginning of the reed with slightly pressed lips and pushing the larynx into your mouth. You will find that you can control the entire range of notes this way. Once you have practised a little, you no longer need to push in and out, as you can control everything with lip pressure.
You can achieve the blasting fiep by opening your lips at lightning speed while fieping, this is how the piää is produced. The scream of fear is created in the same way, only you make the piää longer until you run out of air. The best time for the blasting beep and scream is from 8 to 18 August. In the high mountains you can still do it until the end of August. The best times are in the morning from 7 - 9 a.m. and at noon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The fawn call is produced with the short shank. Place the fingers between the two rings and blow vigorously, two-three times vigorously and then two-three times quietly and plaintively to finish this verse. The wenge wood of this ringer is inlaid with liquid beeswax. Should the reed move due to carelessness, please return it to the centre position or move it again.
